Beating the Winter Blues
Depression affects 1 in 4 people, for many there are higher risks to this in the cooler months. Some people also experience Seasonal Depression which is where they experience a lowered mood in the cooler and darker months of winter. Below you will find some simple and achievable ideas to help keep you feeling good over the winter.
Sunshine is very important as it provides us with vitamin D.
Give yourself 15-30 minutes of daily unfiltered sunlight (no hat or glasses), morning is the best time.
Taking time to RELAX from your busy day to day life is vital.
Go fishing, play a sport or game of golf, read a book, listen to music or just veg out. Do something that brings you happiness and is in a calming environment.
Self care is also important when reducing risks of depression or if recovering from an episode of depression. Try gentle exercise such as swimming, walking, cycling or Tai Chi. Make time to catch up with friends or family regularly. Talk to someone if you are feeling a little or a lot down.
