Theatre Services


Numurkah District Health Service offers a variety of elective surgery procedures including general surgery, gynaecology and endoscope procedures.

Visiting Specialist Surgeons and Anaesthetists from Shepparton have regular operating lists at NDHS.

Specialists

Mr. D. Dalton has an endoscopy list (colonoscopes / gastroscopes) on Tuesdays once a month and a 3 or 4 extra lists throughout the year.

Mr. R. Hunt operates every 2nd Thursday. He is a general surgeon who has a variety of procedures he performs at NDHS including hernia operations, breast reduction, abdominoplasty, varicose veins and many others.

Dr. A. Maharaj is a gynaecologist who operates Tuesdays once or twice per month,

The Goulburn Valley Anaesthetic Group based in Shepparton provide a specialist anaesthetist for every list.

Theatre Staff

The Nurse Unit Manager of Theatre is a specialist operating room nurse. Other nursing staff are a combination of theatre nurses from other regional healthcare facilities or nurses who regularly work in theatre and other areas of NDHS.

A qualified Central Sterilising Department (CSD) Technician works permanently two days per week, Tuesdays and Thursdays. The Technician is responisble for ensuring instruments and equipment is clean and sterilised appropriately. The department staff are responsible for ensuring theatre's requirements are available when required. They are also clean and sterilise equipment and instruments for the local doctors clinics and other internal departments of the hospital.

Day Procedure Unit (DPU) is staffed by two nurses on a regular basis. They work on theratre days. The same staff work in pre-admission. They ensure patients and clients are suitable for operating at NDHS. Information and education is exchanged at this time.

Theatre Process
Patients and clients are asked on numerous occasions during the admission process and hospital stay by appropriate personnel to confirm that the correct side / site procedure is about to be performed. This process decreases the risks involved for patients / clients undergoing surgery.

Environment
Numurkah District Health Service ensures the environment and equipment is up to date with current requirements. This is beneficial for patients, hospital staff, medical officers and other personnel involved in the efficient functioning of the theatre complex.
