Occupational Health & Safety at NDHS
NDHS has an obligation to provide a safe environment. All staff, volunteers, contractors and visitors can be assured that processes are in place to ensure that the working environment of NDHS is monitored and risk management strategies developed to meet the requirements of the legislation.
The NDHS OH&S committee is comprised of elected staff health and safety representatives and management representatives. This committee meets on a monthly basis and minutes of the meetings are reported to each department, the Quality Improvement sub committee, the Risk Executive and the Board of Management.
The OH&S committee has been instrumental in a number of quality safety initiatives such as the "Scooter Safety Program" which was rolled out into both the health service and the community, improved staff OH&S knowledge and support, a downward trend in the number of staff injuries over the last 3 years and numerous other smaller safety projects. For this effort, the OH&S committee was awarded a NDHS Innovation & Excellence Award in 2009.
