Occupational Therapy

The expansion of our Allied Health Team has resulted in us securing, not just one, but two highly skilled, highly trained, highly motivated Occupational Therapists, Dion Duffy and Robyn Sprunt. Sharing the role, one of them will be available most days and provide a wide ranging Occupational Therapy support to meet a variety of client needs. Consider a normal week for them: home assessment to enhance safety and increased independence with daily living tasks; ramp, home modification and hand rail prescription and advice; intervention to address factors such as cognitive and perceptual deficits; therapy to enhance upper limb use; assessment and advice regarding the prescription of specialized equipment and seating; safe scooter use; stress management and relaxation therapy; task simplification advice and vocational rehabilitation; early childhood intervention and of course promotion of healthy lifestyles. Wow, what a list!

SCOOTER FORUM—THURSDAY OCTOBER 9
We are living in an ageing society and more and more people with restricted mobility are using electric scooters and wheelchairs as a means of transportation.
The Occupational Therapy Department at the Numurkah District Health Service is planning a scooter forum on Thursday the 9th October to tie in with the Seniors Festival.
Do you want to be part of the Scooter Forum Planning group?
The objectives of the forum are to provide information to all members of the public regarding:
- meet and greet other scooter users
- safe scooter use in our community
- opportunity to discuss relevant issues to using a scooter in our local community
- insurance and indemnity information relating to electric scooters and wheelchairs.
- issues relating to storage, service and maintaining your scooter
- local suppliers displaying a range of various motorized scooter options – come and try!
We plan to establish a community scooter users action group aimed to provide a unified voice to address relevant issues such as community safety and access.
If you are interested in contributing to this forum or action group please contact Dion or Robyn at the Numurkah Community Health Centre on 5862 0560
