Men's Shed

CONGRATULATIONS and THANKS                           President Con

CONGRATULATIONS go to those persons who had the foresight to start a new organisation in Numurkah on July 28, 2008. The Numurkah Community Men’s Shed is now a year old!  Our THANKS go to the steering committee which has seen us through start up and into top gear.

The engine is running smoothly, mainly on two cylinders (Fridays and Tuesdays), with additional horsepower needed on extra days to cope with the demand for our products and services. Planter boxes are a breeze, kennels are a conundrum but budgie boxes are beaut (small and simple). Of course worktables continue to arouse passions in purchasers who can’t wait but must have—NOW!.  Without promotion on our part, word is spreading that the Men’s Shed provides value for money!

Members who attend regularly are benefiting by simply coming in to share time and a cuppa with other men and ladies, and are not under any obligation to expend (possibly limited) energies unless they want to. There are always less physical things to do such as sweeping, de-nailing, water boiling and cup washing, and of course maintaining a supply of bikkies and snags. Overseeing our new heating facilities is important too, now that we have a gas space heater AND a pot-belly stove. Our thanks got to these helpers. (Note: our resident Mr Fixit has been encouraged to arrange a water supply to the donated basin to facilitate wash-ups). There continue to be lots of other things to do…

If demand for our boxes, kennels, etc. increases, it is likely that an additional regular activity day is on the horizon, giving three half-days per week with additional get-together time and a chance to get our planned community garden properly under way.   This will be dictated by demand and interest level.

Our woodturning and metalworking activities are attracting member interest; both are now available. Similarly, the beginnings of a veggie garden are appearing and this endeavour is sure to attract those with gardening expertise. Help is needed to build raised beds and to make this as successful as our current projects. Some heavy work here for the stronger ones among us!

Remember, these facilities are yours, and as a member you are encouraged to use them…

Congratulations to all, and a Happy Birthday to us!

Donations

All items will be most welcome, either for use (once checked out) or for resale or spare parts. (We will most likely need volunteers to pick up items later)
